I am the sole owner of the Mediapolis Veterinary Clinic, which is a rural, mixed-animal practice in SE Iowa. As owner, my responsibilities include managing a small, tight-knit staff, managing our webpage, making sure all of our bills are paid on time, and planning our clinic expansion that hopefully will be started this year. As a veterinarian, I provide services to virtually all species other than reptiles (including zebras, camels, and white-tailed deer!). I really enjoy the variety that my practice provides and am constantly trying to improve our medicine as well as our client experience.
Favorite Vetcove Tip
The discussion boards on Vetcove are my favorite feature. I really appreciate getting several viewpoints on every topic and have learned about products and equipment that I never knew existed. The veterinarians and staff who contribute on the boards are helpful and friendly.
Favorite Veterinary Life Hack
A good way to provide some extra patient warming power is to purchase an insulated grocery bag (the kind with the silver reflective lining) - it acts just like an emergency blanket and reflects the heat back to the patient if you're already using your other heat sources.
Reasons I love working in the veterinary field
Every day in veterinary medicine is different - I love being able to perform a complicated dental procedure, then go out on a farm call to assist with a calf dystocia and return to the clinic to educate a client on their new puppy. I don't think I could ever be happy being behind a desk all day, every day, and the best part is that I get to see miracles on a regular basis!
